Through a collaborative, non-judgmental process, a coach can help a person gain clarity, insights, and awareness, to help clear obstacles and create a clear path to move forward.
It is important to know that a personal life and health coach is not necessarily a specialised nutritionist or registered medical professional. A variety of licensed providers can offer mental health counselling e.g. psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counsellors, psychotherapists. What generally delineates practitioners who provide mental health counselling is professional identity. Coaching does not involve clinical assessments, diagnosing, treatment plans, or “psychological therapeutic interventions,” coaches “may provide expert guidance in areas in which they hold active, nationally recognized credentials, and may offer resources from nationally recognized authorities such as those referenced in NBHWC’s healthy lifestyle curriculum.” (NBHWC Health & Wellness Coach Scope of Practice).
Coaching is best suited for individuals who are functioning well in their daily lives and not experiencing serious psychological or emotional distress or crisis. Although challenged by the health or wellness issues they are experiencing, clients appropriate for coaching are fully capable of participating in the coaching process, taking responsibility, being accountable, and making consistent progress toward their desired outcomes, even when change is hard. Personal life and health coaching will support a client in taking responsibility for their own health and behaviour change.
In the area of nutrition almost anyone can call themselves a ‘nutritionist’. I have experience in nutrition and completed courses in the field, but I am not a registered nutritionist. There are professional, registered experts that work solely in this arena and can offer prescribed diet plans for specific needs. I can, however, work with you on cleaning your dietary ‘closet’ and can help you with changing your eating habits. If you have been prescribed a specific diet for health reasons, I can work with you to make the changes necessary to enable you to maintain and sustain your prescription.
As a coach I hold a non-judgemental space for you and your beliefs. I recognise the importance of your belief, faith, or spiritual journey, and we will work together to create a plan that can hold this in its centre if need be.
Yes. With the magic of Zoom we can meet remotely. Each week we will have a 45-60 minute meeting, followed up with a check-in email.
I offer a tailored programme to meet your needs. This comprises weekly meetings and email check-ins. After we have had our first introductory session and once you register for us to work together you will receive an outline of what our work together will ‘look’ like.
I also offer group coaching, from coffee groups, bootcamps, and corporate wellness.
